Xiaochen Xie (Satoshi Aya), Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the Advanced Institute of Soft Matter Science and Technology, South China University of Technology. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Organic Materials, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Organic Polymer Physics from the Tokyo Institute of Technology between 2006 and 2014, under the supervision of renowned scholars including Hideo Takezoe and Ken Ishikawa. Starting from 2014, he held successive positions as a Research Engineer at Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation, a Special Researcher and a Special Researcher for Basic Science at the RIKEN (Japan Institute of Physical and Chemical Research). He joined South China University of Technology in 2019 as a Distinguished Researcher. Dr. Xie’s research focuses on the fundamental physics and functional applications of soft matter such as liquid crystals, polymers, and colloids, covering fields including liquid crystal physics, surface physics, viscoelasticity physics, and the artificial design of colloidal particles. His team discovered the universally existing electric polarization topological structures in ferroelectric liquid crystals and clarified the generation mechanism of polar cyclic topologies, with the relevant findings published in Nature Physics. He has presided over projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and two projects supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). He has published SCI papers in prestigious journals such as Nature Physics and Physical Review Letters, and filed 7 patents in China, Japan, and the United States. He was selected into the "Pearl River Talents Plan" Young Top Talents of Guangdong Province. |
